Letter to the Reader

Dear reader,

When in this book I write the words “Christo” or “Jesus Christ,” please do not think that, for me, God has become Catholic or Christian. If the words “Krishna” or “Buddha” appear in my text, do not assume that, for us, God has suddenly become Buddhist or that He now belongs to some sect. I must also tell you that I readily admit I do not have a religious mind, even though, paradoxically, my thinking does not systematically oppose religion.

As you can see, I commune with a God without a Church; nevertheless, I acknowledge the need to encounter guides. Moreover, if God is omnipresent in every being and in every thing, how could we not see Him in a temple? If it is possible to unite with God in the middle of a forest, why would it be impossible to do so inside a chapel? For this reason, although my approach is essentially universal, I do not necessarily reject the Divine Names that have been handed down to us by the great mystical traditions of past ages.

As a starting point, I assume that the words “Christo” and “Krishna” are exactly the same since they indicate the qualities of a Unique Substance, both personal and impersonal, that permeates the entire universe. After all, these words belong to the public domain and do not belong to any particular group. You and I can read or pronounce them without automatically feeling threatened. In this perspective, even the word “God” represents here the Living Whole. My deepest wish is that there be no misunderstanding in your mind about the true nature of the particular sound energies that constitute the Divine Names mentioned in my works. Be assured that my vocation is not religious; it is primarily artistic and therapeutic.

It is clear that the concept of God upon which I meditate has no limits in time or space. We cannot confine the Absolute to a simple evolutionary process, as is still sometimes done, can we? God naturally has the freedom to be everything that can be imagined, and at the same time to exist beyond all imagination. Infinity is not only light or energy. If it is truly an infinite conception of Absolute Truth, God may also be a living, multidimensional, timeless Entity that is intellectually inconceivable. As such, God possesses an infinity of Forms and Names that are not different from Him and that correspond to a specific quality or movement that belongs to Him. Thus the word “Adonai,” for example, defines in Hebrew an Absolute that is the source of all abundance, while the word “Krishna,” in the ancient Sanskrit language, reveals the irresistibly fascinating nature of the Divinity. Do you follow me?

The ancestral soul of all living beings, as a divine particle, possesses in part the same potentials as God and therefore knows no boundaries of time, place, era, or culture. To illustrate this idea, imagine a shooting star crossing the portion of sky above Australia. Would that star therefore become Australian? Of course not. In the same way, you see, God does not become Hindu, Christian, or Jewish when we unite with Him in a temple, a church, or a synagogue.

The human soul is never Canadian or French even when it is socially conditioned and artificially identifies itself, for a few short earthly years, with a particular nationality. Some may believe so, but that is another story. By understanding the nature of the soul, you can understand the nature of God, because these two realities share the same essence.

That is why, my dear friend, when you encounter words that define what is most sacred within us, whether “Krishna,” “Christo,” or any other name of this kind, do not be tempted to close your heart—and your book at the same time. Before associating the word with past experiences, take the time to look within yourself and see whether you might be falling again into old prejudices or being influenced by a series of social conditionings. Agreed? Why should you fear Sacred Names that have come to you freely and spontaneously, carried through millennia of universal wisdom?

Oh, I am not unaware of how these Names have sometimes been mistreated, dragged through the mud, and mixed with all sorts of circumstances. I know the bad reputation that people have sometimes given them. I admit that it is not always easy to detect their original truth, for they guard their incredible secret well. Yet they still illuminate the whole space, and the love with which they are filled, expressed in the form of sound energies, represents perhaps the most intriguing of mysteries. Millions of people have whispered them at one time or another and have thus charged them with their blessings. This may also be why the Divine Names seem to overflow with spiritual power and unsuspected healing effects. Countless people have been relieved, healed, and continue to be healed through them.

When a sound is emitted, it sets invisible waves into motion that open a channel between us and the subtle forms that correspond to that sound. This likely explains why I am so eager to call God by His many Names and why they appear so often in my work. For me, they are a passage toward the presence of the Supreme Angel.

I thank you for being touched by this encounter and for remaining attentive to all these Divine Harmonies that we already know here on planet Earth, as well as those that remain for us to discover.

Sincerely,
Patrick Bernard
